Troy Picks ‘Em (NFL: Week 5)

All right, guys, week 5 is bound and it’s time to get some picks in. It’s already Saturday, so I’m pretty late. But however, I’m here, finally posting my picks and ready to watch my Rams lose again. Without further annoyances…

Cardinals over Rams
The Rams will be waving ‘welcome back’ at Ritchie Incognito and the afore-suspended cornerback Fahkir Brown for tomorrow’s game. However, they will still be missing a bundle of players that include Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Claude Terrell, Isaac Bruce (who guaranteed a victory for the Rams, again, for the second consecutive week), and others. Not to mention nearly the whole receiving core is banged up in a way. The defense is also taking a toll from being out on the field so long. With that said, the Rams are ugly, and I expect them to lose. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be rooting like a maniac for them, though.

Falcons over Titans
This is my upset pick this week. Rarely that I ever have upsets, anyway. For some reason, I think the Titans will slip up in this game, and the Falcons who have won one straight games (yes, that’s sarcasm) are ‘hot’ for another win that’s due. I’m weary of what Vince Young will pull off, but I have a feeling that Atlanta will be on his back all day long.

New England over Cleveland
Need I say more? I’ve heard that Cleveland’s d-line matches up with New England’s, but there’s no way the Browns will down the NFL’s so-called best team.

Steelers over Seahawks
Hines Ward is out, Polamalu is (?) doubtful. Yikes. However, the Steelers are pissed off (a good line that one of my buddies, a Seahawks fan, said the other day) from the Arizona loss and are ready to pop some helmets off. Look forward to Willie Parker banging and bumping ’some yards’ on Sunday in a 14-7 Pittsburgh win.

Lions over Redskins
You know, after the ‘Skins started 2-0, they didn’t look like it in their following game against the New York Giants. However, they had a week off to look at the Detroit Lions and study the way they play offense. Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m too lazy to check out the stats on NFL.com right now), but the last time I checked, Jon Kitna leads the league in passing yards (kudos to Martz’s offensive system.) I haven’t heard about the inactives for this game, but I have heard the kinks in the ‘Skins system so far. While I’m big on Jason Campbell’s bandwagon, I think Detroit’s going to be ready this Sunday.

Saints over Panthers
Come on, now, don’t bash me. The New Orleans Saints are due for a win sometime. If it’s not this Sunday against the Panthers, deny them from the playoffs. But, still, McAllister may be out for the season, but still. Buts are off limits. Carolina has been inconsistent so far this season, and David Carr isn’t shown us NFL fans that he’s a formidable starter on the Carolina Panthers yet.

Texans over Dolphins
The Dolphins defense is old, Trent Green’s a Phin-bust, I’m still bitter they didn’t keep ahold of Daunte Culpepper for a little while longer because of him being injured and hurt last season. Karma bites doesn’t it? Meanwhile, Houston looks like they will be atop their division in a couple of years. Not to mention, the Dolphins Run D is terrrrrrible. They are what? Giving up 190-some yards a game? Just shoot me.

Cowboys over Bills
Dallas wins, easily. I’d love to take the Bills here as the game is in Buffalo, but Dallas’s offense will be flying high all night long, my bet.

Chiefs over Jaguars
I’m a homer, a homer, a homer that thinks the Chiefs WR core is better than the Jaguars WR core! (read that line again, and play the song “Maniac” in your mind. Perfect.) Seriously, though, the Jags are another off-and-on team carrying a lgiht switch. Dwayne Bowe is cool, so it’s all good for the Chiefs, right? Right!

Giants over Jets
The Giants are hot; the Jets are not. I elicit you, right here and right now, to convince me otherwise! Also, I think homefield advantage will play a factor.

Colts over Buccaneers
Even though the Buccaneers have looked excellent this year, they, unfortunately for them, are having to slam helmets against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, and we all know the Colts have the balls to stack up to the Bucs. The Bucs D up agianst the Colts O is going to fun to look at. What’s even more fun will be seeing Tampa Bay’s alleged new ’star’ running back Earnest Graham run right at the Colts defense.

Broncos over Chargers
The Chargers, as usual when they play the Broncos, will probably go down by a legitimate amount, and then look conducive for a little while and then make a win happen. But with Norv “Scott Linehan is my bastard son” Turner, a guy that has no clue on how to run LT and the Chargers’ offense, could very well screw this rigmarole up as he’s done in nearly every week for the 1-3 San Diego Chargers this season.

49ers over Ravens
While the Ravens defense looks good..on paper, they haven’t been as spectacular as you would have thought this year. San Francisco is the same way with their offense. I believe that this game will be the Niners’ wake-up call to score some points. Especially after putting up 3 points in their stinker against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.

Bears over Packers
I actually want the Packers to win, and I’m only making this prediction because everything usually comes back to bite me in the ass. But all seriousness, the Bears need a win. The Packers are still caught up in Brett Favre’s euophoria, and anointing all of his accomplishments and glory. I will make a bet right now that Packers’ head ball coach Mike McCarthy has hardly even gotten his team ready this week. (Yes, that’s a homer statement.) Picture some crazy scenario that the Bears run Charles ‘Peanut’ Tillman to rush the QB; Favre evades Tillman’s tackle, but here comes big bad Brian Urlacher up the middle, hitting Favre so hard causing Brett to flip backwards two times, to amazingly be able to shovel the ball off to Najeh Davenport; while at the same time, Chris Berman and John Madden concurrently faint and are taken to local respective hospitals immediately. All of that while Al Michaels has to commentate the game play-by-play with no color commentary the rest of the way without Madden.
